DELMAR, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- In three games throughout the Section 2, Class AAA tournament, the Guilderland boys soccer team scored one goal in regulation. And still, the Dutchmen are section champions.
That lone goal came in Thursday night's Class AAA final played at Bethlehem Central High School. Fourth-seeded Guilderland and third-seeded Shenendehowa went into overtime tied at 1-1. Following two scoreless, 15-minute OT periods, the match went to penalty kicks, meaning the two teams would be named co-section champs.
But only one team could take home the sectional plaque, and that was Guilderland after prevailing, 9-8, in 11 rounds of PKs. A miss from Shen in the 11th round opened the door for the Dutchmen, and senior captain Ryan Neale delivered the game-ending goal, making amends for a fa
