The faces change, but the fighting spirit never seems to graduate from Santa Fe’s volleyball program.
Coming into Thursday night’s Region III-5A-II bi-district match as heavy underdogs and light on playoff experience, the Lady Indians didn’t back down, but the Port Neches-Groves Lady Indians ultimately prevailed for a 26-24, 25-13, 14-25, 25-14 win at Hamshire-Fannett High School.
“We’ve had our struggles, but I’m really proud of the girls,” Santa Fe head volleyball coach Jennifer Webb said. “They did everything that they could do.”
Santa Fe came out unintimidated by favored PN-G, as the two sides went back and forth in a first set that had 14 ties and five lead changes.
Santa Fe drew achingly close to claiming the match’s opening set with a 23-21 lead, but PN-G rallied with
