Recent news articles about Olympic Medical Center’s troubles are appalling.

In particular are the reports of multiple and continuing violations of rules that have resulted in termination letters by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid informing OMC that it would end its contract with the hospital if the violations are not addressed.

This situation is very serious.

It has been reported that about 70 percent of OMC’s income is through Medicare and Medicaid. If that is lost, one can only conclude that the hospital will fail, and a vital medical resource will be lost to our community.

This situation has been developing for many months, since at least February, as reported in the PDN, and reflects a serious failure of leadership.
