In the same way that our federal government operates under the authority of the U.S. Constitution, the State of Texas operates under the authority of the Texas Constitution.

The U.S. Constitution has been amended only 27 times. In contrast the Texas Constitution is a much longer document that has been amended over 500!

Typically, amendments to the Texas Constitution are proposed by the Texas Legislature.
