The federal government’s shutdown over a Congressional budget impasse has put funding for numerous programs at risk, including Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) food benefits.

Unless Congress takes action, SNAP benefits are set to end at the start of November, which will affect roughly 2 million Pennsylvanians.

While Gov. Josh Shapiro has joined in a legal effort across several states to release contingency funds to support SNAP , it might take some time until the program is running again.
