Hyderabad: Former Indian cricket captain and Congress leader Mohammad Azharuddin has been sworn in as a cabinet minister in Telangana on Friday. Azharuddin’s induction into Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s cabinet has sparked political controversy, with opposition parties alleging that the move is aimed at influencing the upcoming Jubilee Hills bypoll.

The constituency, which has over one lakh Muslim voters, is witnessing a triangular contest between the Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). Both the BJP and BRS have accused the Congress of using Azharuddin’s appointment to woo the minority vote bank.
