EUSTIS, Fla. – A bridge partially collapsed Thursday night in a Eustis neighborhood, cutting off residents and prompting the evacuation of homes.

The collapse, which took place at Spring Ridge Estates off DeLand Road, comes days after record rainfall -- up to 19 inches in some areas -- flooded portions of Central Florida , especially in Lake and Brevard counties.

The bridge is the only way in or out for residents of nearly two dozen homes, who were told to leave and turn the power to their houses off because fire trucks were unable to get across the bridge, if needed.

Eustis police said the bridge is in danger of further collapse, so officers are guarding it to ensure no one tries to cross it.
