The ongoing federal government shutdown shuttered Mammoth Cave National Park's guided cave tours in October, but there is still a way to make a trip out of the popular tourist destination in south-central Kentucky.
Officials at The Lodge at Mammoth Cave , a hotel just southeast of the park, are promoting a 30-minute, self-guided cave tour. The lodge remains open because it is operated by a private hospitality company, ExPlorUS . The tour is the only one available for visitors while the shutdown persists, according to a news release from the company.
