Kirsty Gallacher has thanked her fans for their outpouring of love and support after she was physically assaulted in the street by a stranger. The former Sky Sports presenter revealed earlier this week that a man kicked her "like he was kicking a football" while she was walking from work to her car on a well-lit street in central London around 7pm. The 49-year-old has now shared an update on her Instagram Stories, issuing a statement in which she thanked her fans and called on the police to have more of a presence on London streets. "Just a quick note to say a huge thank you for all your love and support, it means the world to me & clearly most of you agree that something needs to change," Kirsty wrote. "I spoke about this incident to raise awareness. This sort of behaviour is not OK. There needs to be a stronger police presence on the streets of London, especially at night, there was no one there for me. Thankfully it was not a more serious assault." The TV personality revealed that she has declined interviews to discuss the incident and that the Metropolitan Police are "dealing with the situation". She concluded her post, "People like this need to be caught before they commit more serious crimes." In her original video, Kirsty shared that some girls rushed over to help after the man ran off, but a security guard in a nearby store was "useless" and did nothing. She was left in shock and with bruises on her body after the unprovoked attack. She was inundated with supportive comments from her celebrity friends, including Ulrika Jonsson, Ben Shephard, Lisa Snowdon, Paddy McGuinness and Jenni Falconer, among others.
