A six-month-old baby girl died in Madhya Pradesh's Chhindwara district after reportedly consuming an Ayurvedic cough syrup , prompting authorities to launch an investigation, police said on Friday.

According to officials, the infant, identified as Rohi Minote, developed a fever and cold earlier this week. Without consulting a doctor, her family purchased an Ayurvedic cough syrup from a local medical store and administered it to her.

Four days later, her condition worsened. She was rushed to the civil hospital, where doctors declared her dead during treatment.

Family members alleged that the syrup caused her condition to deteriorate and also accused hospital staff of negligence. Acting on the complaint, the administration has formed a three-member inquiry team comprising the Drug Ins
