OREGON, Ohio — As families across the area prepare for Halloween night, the Oregon Fire and Rescue Department is reminding residents to stay visible and alert while trick-or-treating.

Fire safety inspector Tyler Wepler said the department is emphasizing visibility and safety on the streets as traffic and pedestrian activity increase during the holiday.

“With the uptick of traffic we’re going to have on Halloween and children and adults being out in the streets, we definitely want everyone to be as visible as possible,” Wepler said. “Having reflective costumes, flashlights and glow sticks is very beneficial.”

Wepler also advised trick-or-treaters to travel in groups and stick to familiar, well-lit areas.
