STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Directly across the street from PS 46 in South Beach — which was completed in 1929 and originally known as the South Beach School — stands a small deli that has served the community for decades.
It has catered to the neighborhood, students, and teachers alike.
Tax photos show a small shop stood at that location on Reid Avenue, dating back to the 1940s.
It was named G. Caiozzo Candy Store at that time.
It was likely built around that time, as a NYC Tax photo shows an empty lot in the 1930s.
The deli at that location has changed names over the years.
In the 1960s, it was called Milk N Things.
In the 1980s, it was known as Del-Campo Deli.
Today it’s called the Royal Deli & Grill.
They serve breakfast, lunch and many items in between.
