Caleb Mitchell’s first Ontario Hockey League goal happened in familiar haunts.
The London rookie defenceman, who grew up 20 minutes from Peterborough in nearby Omemee, hit paydirt in the opening period of the Knights’ 6-1 victory over the Petes before 3,700 Thursday at the Memorial Centre.
The 17-year-old’s early tally stood up as the game winner. The London Nationals Junior B grad grew up rooting for the Petes and skated this summer at the new Miskin Law Community Complex, which is just across the way from the venerable PMC.
The defending Memorial Cup champs scored three times in the first period, blitzed Peterborough starting goaltender Masen Johnston with 25 early shots and improved to 8-0-2 in their past 10 games.
Veteran rearguard Henry Brzustewicz added two more goals in a 36-sec
