LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office has provided some Halloween safety tips for parents and children planning on trick-or-treating Friday evening.

Children of all ages are encouraged to stay visible by wearing glow sticks and high visibility clothing and using flashlights.

Older kids should use crosswalks and stick together in groups. LSO said people should also be aware of their surroundings and avoid distractions when walking.

LSO also wants to remind children to never go into a stranger’s home or vehicle.

LSO said drivers on the road should be patient, slow down and turn on their headlights for pedestrians.

At the end of the night, parents should check their children’s treat bag for any suspicious items.
