(NewsNation) — Blood pressure medication prazosin hydrochloride has been recalled over concerns it may contain a cancer-causing chemical.
Earlier this month, Teva Pharmaceuticals and Amerisource Health Services issued a voluntary recall for more than 580,000 bottles of various strengths of prazosine capsules, the Food and Drug Administration said.
Prazosin relaxes the blood vessels and is used to lower blood pressure. It is also prescribed to treat nightmares and sleep disturbances related to post-traumatic stress disorder.
The recall includes lot numbers 1016996, 1018336 and 1021220, with expiration date 11/30/2025 and lot numbers 1022421 and 1025017 with expiration date Aug. 31, 2026.
The FDA classified the recall as a Class II because the medication could contain nitrosamine impurit
