When Aoife Sutton-Butler was eight years old, she saw her first dead body.

When her grandfather died, she recalls seeing him displayed at home during a wake before his funeral.

Growing up in rural Ireland, Sutton-Butler explains to PEOPLE that Irish people "have a very interesting attitude toward death," going on to share that in Ireland, "the family are very involved in seeing the dead body."
