If federal food assistance pauses at the beginning of November, Michigan's schools are preparing resources to help feed families.

Many schools will lean on existing programs to help fill the gaps in after-school and weekend meals and may ramp up efforts to serve free breakfast.

Michigan's public schools, long a refuge for children in need of a consistent breakfast and lunch, are searching and scraping to help feed children outside of school hours if federal nutrition assistance benefits are paused Nov. 1.
