DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) - Governor Kim Reynolds is sharing news details about state assistance, as federal SNAP benefits could end tomorrow due to the government shutdown.
Governor Reynolds made an announcement Thursday that Iowa food banks will see increased support from the state.
Reynolds is directing the Department of Health and Human Services (HSS) to recruit and deploy volunteers for food assistance operations. HHS said staffing, distribution and food inventory are the main focus.
Reynolds told HHS to use state funds to match food bank donations up to $1 million starting November 1 if SNAP benefits are not funded during November. The six regional food banks included in the match serve all 99 counties.
Donations can be made to each food bank online though Gov. Reynolds website.
