A 74-year-old pedestrian died after being hit by an SUV on Monday night in Long Branch, authorities said.
Fernando Pinho was crossing Route 36 at Branchport Avenue when he was struck at 6:17 p.m., the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office said Friday.
Pinho, of Red Bank, was brought to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead just before 9 p.m.
The driver, who stopped at the scene, has not been charged or issued summonses as of Friday morning.
Born in Portugal, Pinho “wore many hats in his lifetime” — holding jobs as a fisherman, restaurateur and car salesman in his native country before moving with his family to the United States, his online obituary said. After moving to the U.S., Pinho owned a construction company.
