CHENEY, Wash. – Eastern Washington University is set to bring back its Salish helmets in honor of Native American Heritage Month. The celebration begins tomorrow and the helmets were created in collaboration with the Kalispell Tribe of Indians and Northern Quest Resort and Casino.

The helmets feature a decal with a Salish phrase translating to “a group of eagles.” The football team first introduced the helmets last year.

They will wear the helmets for the first time this season during their game against Sacramento State tomorrow.

The partnership with the Kalispell Tribe and Northern Quest Resort and Casino highlights the university’s commitment to honoring Native American culture and heritage.
