Cuts to disability benefits are still on the table, the government has said, amid confusion as to whether ministers had given up on hoped-for savings.

The review into Personal Independence Payments (PIP) benefits for those living with disabilities was formally launched this week , led by minister Sir Stephen Timms.

Its work, ordered to placate Labour MPs who rejected plans to cut £5bn off the welfare bill by restricting PIP eligibility, will review how disability benefit assessments and eligibility could be improved. New Feature
