NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — Newport police said officers detained a person wanted by the FBI Thursday night.
Police said the department was notified by the FBI about a subject suspected of being involved in a violent felony.
Officers were given a description of the vehicle the subject was believed to be operating, police said.
The car was later stopped by officers on Narragansett Avenue, police said.
According to police, the subject was detained and turned over to the FBI.
A police spokesperson said “unusual items” were found in the subject’s vehicle by detectives, prompting a search by the Rhode Island Bomb Squad assigned to the fire marshal’s office.
