A bridge on Hursh Road in northern Allen County needs emergency repairs.

Allen County commissioners today approved a declaration of emergency for repairs to the Hursh Road Bridge between Halter and Puff roads.

Commissioner Ron Turpin said the emergency declaration may not paint the right picture, but it is the correct terminology.

“It’s not that the bridge is falling into the water or anything,” he said. “It’s that (the Allen County Highway Department) deemed that it could fail. Because of that, we need to protect the public and do so in an appropriate way. So, this gives them the ability to focus on it.”

Commissioners approved a contract with Fort Wayne-based Engineering Resources, Inc. not to exceed $17,400.
