BAY MINETTE, Ala. (WKRG) — After seven years of service to the Bay Minette Police Department and City of Bay Minette, K9 Harko is retiring.
The Belgian Malinois, who joined the force in 2018, will now live out his years with his handler, Sgt. Justin Kelly.
Bay Minette Police Chief Al Tolbert gave accolades to Harko and all of his accomplishments during his service.
“Harko is directly responsible for hundreds of drug arrests, locating felons, and the seizure of large amounts of suspected drug money,” Tolbert said. “Job well done K9 Harko. Enjoy your well-earned retirement.”
In addition to helping catch bad guys and recover drugs and money, Harko was an ambassador to the community, even serving as the Grand Marshal of the Christmas parade, Bay Minette Mayor Bob Wills said.
