SMITHFIELD, Utah (ABC4) — Sky View High School students came together this week to collect food donations for local food banks amid the government shutdown.
Students at the school joined in a friendly competition between grades to raise money and gather food donations.
Keri Pugmire, Sky View's executive advisor, said that even though it's a competition, the students care more about helping others than winning.
"They're competing, and then they get to the point where it's not about the numbers, it's about their 'why.' They're really caring about their community."
Helping families in need
Pugmire said that the school hosts a food drive every year. However, this year was different because of the government shutdown.
"With the government shutdown, so many families are in need," said Pugm
