A coalition of churches, cities, nonprofits, a labor union, and even one grocery store is suing the Trump administration in Rhode Island over the suspension of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.

On Oct. 10, the acting associate SNAP administrator sent a memo to regional and state SNAP directors — warning of an impending catastrophe: "if the current lapse in appropriations continues, there will be insufficient funds to pay full November SNAP benefits for approximately 42 million individuals across the Nation."

The original memo went on to note SNAP offices would "normally" begin sending allotments for November SNAP benefits to vendors who issue electronic benefit transfer (EBT) cards and associated payments "soon." But, the initial memo added, for various reasons,
