A Great Britain surfing event was forced to be postponed as the Semi-finals of the GB Cup were taking place on Sunday at Thurso in Caithness.
The sport is easily one of the most hazardous activities you can undertake in open water.
In October 2024, 36-year-old surfer and social media influencer Giulia Manfrini tragically lost her life as she was injured by a leaping swordfish that stabbed her in the chest while she was on her board while surfing in the Mentawai Islands off the coast of Indonesia.
Manfrini reportedly suffered a wound 2 inches deep that she would not be able to recover from.
Dealing with marine life is one thing, but the event at Thurso in Caithness had more to do with other people becoming a nuisance to the competitors.
