Community activist Robert Davis is suing Rev. Solomon Kinloch Jr., alleging the mayoral candidate slandered and defamed him during and after a televised debate on Oct. 15 by accusing him of being a "covert operative" for mayoral opponent City Council President Mary Sheffield.

The lawsuit, filed Friday in Oakland County Circuit Court, states that contrary to the "false and defamatory remarks," the plaintiff is not a "covert operative" for Sheffield. It seeks at least $500,000 in damages.

During the mayoral debate on WXYZ, Kinloch said:

"When she (Sheffield) talks about my integrity and allegations, she's talking about her covert operative that's throwing rocks while they hide their hand. All of these assaults have come by one person—Robert Davis."
