DIXON, Ill. (WREX) — After nearly 50 years on the airwaves, local radio legend Steve Marco has signed off for the last time, marking the end of an era in Sauk Valley radio. Marco is set to retire this Friday, October 31 concluding a career that has been both a profession and a family to him.

Marco began his career in Nebraska before establishing himself in Dixon, Illinois, where he became a beloved figure in the community. "I just felt fortunate that I was able to plant myself here, raise a family here, and be accepted," Marco said. He added that he is not leaving the area but is stepping back from his role as the morning host on WIXN AM 1460/FM 95.1's "The Waking Crew."
