In Ed Lamb’s first two seasons as Northern Colorado head football coach, the Bears were basically the polar opposite of Montana State.
MSU finished one win away from a Big Sky title in 2023, Lamb’s first season in Greeley, Colorado. The Bobcats won every game until the FCS championship last year, including a 55-17 home victory over UNC in their Big Sky home opener. The Bears beat Weber State a week later for their first win under Lamb. It was their only win in his two seasons at the helm.
As MSU head coach Brent Vigen built an FCS championship contender mainly through the development of high school recruits, Lamb lifted the Bears out of the gutter with a similar approach — “the right way,” as Vigen called it.
