PEORIA, Ill. – An investigation is underway after a man suffered a head injury reportedly from being struck multiple times by a handgun early Friday morning in South Peoria.

Peoria Police says officers responded to eight shots fired just after 3:45 A.M. in the area of Hurlburt and MacArthur Highway.

Police observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed pull into a local hospital, where the 23-year-old male victim was found inside the vehicle.

A passenger told police that a group of males approached the vehicle and opened the door, with one of them striking the victim several times.

The driver put the vehicle in reverse to flee the area, with the suspect firing multiple shots at the vehicle.

A search of suspects in the area yielded negative results.
