WAUPACA, Wis. (WBAY) - A judge affirmed a decision this week to grant a permit for a mine on the Iola Old Car Show property.

The proposed sand mine at Iola has been a source of contention in the community for a few years now.

In 2023, Faulks Bros. Construction submitted an application to the Waupaca County Planning & Zoning Office for a permit to operate a sand and gravel mine on the Car Show property in the Town of Scandinavia.

When the planning and zoning committee rejected the permit in 2023, it said plans for the sand mine didn’t fit with Scandinavia’s comprehensive plan and objectives. Faulks Bros. Construction appealed the committee’s decision. It argued the town’s plan is a guide, not law.
