For arena advocate Mike Finner, Friday’s announcement of two million dollars in Northern Ontario Heritage Fund money was a very long time in coming. Finner, and friends, have been advocating for a new arena of some sort since the early 2000’s.

Finner, after what he called, “more downs than ups during the lobbying process,’ was happy on Friday.

“During the course of this I never got down. People at city councils change, governments change, we just kept going,” says Finner. He also had this to say about those critical of big ticket sports and recreation projects.

“Improve recreational places like this arena, it will be a draw people to the community like doctors and lawyers. A new arena instills pride in a community,” says Finner.
