Kenny Chesney is opening up about losing his hair as a teenager

The recent Country Music Hall of Fame inductee sat down with PEOPLE ahead of the release of his latest project, a book titled Heart Life Music

Kenny Chesney is tipping his (cowboy) hat to his mom.

The country superstar, 57, says that while he inherited his "love of sports" and his "discipline" from this father, Dave, he "got the love of the ocean, the love of sunlight, the love of music and the love of love" from his mother, Karen, who was a local hairdresser during Chesney's childhood.

"My mom went to beauty school — my God, she's going to kill us [for this story]— and I was her guinea pig on how to do stuff. And I'd go to school smelling like all these chemicals
