The Franklin Regional School District is a contender for a $1 million prize that if won would help officials launch an advanced career academy for all students in Westmoreland County.
The district of nearly 3,400 students is one of 23 education entities nationwide vying for the Yass Prize, which identifies and elevates the next generation of education changemakers.
If awarded to Franklin Regional, officials would use the prize money to establish the academy, which would allow students to pursue three career pathways — health care, technology, and business and entrepreneurship. The idea for the academy was created through a collaboration with other Westmoreland County districts and organizations.
