SUMTER, S.C. — Sumter Police are urging parents to closely inspect their children’s Halloween candy after a report of sharp objects allegedly found inside some local treats.

Officers say they are investigating after a family reported that some of their candy appeared to have been tampered with during a community event. The family told police they were checking the candy Thursday night when they discovered the sharp objects.

Police say they do not have additional details at this time.

Local residents say the reports are concerning, especially as families prepare for Halloween festivities.
