TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - Tucson Water said it will not shut off anyone’s water for non-payment during the federal government shutdown.

“Working families and seniors should not have to decide between paying for utilities or putting food on the table,” said Tucson Mayor Regina Romero. “This suspension of the shutoffs is the city of Tucson’s way of taking immediate action to protect families. I am thankful to the Tucson Water team for acting with urgency and care to help people during these difficult times.”

Tucson Water Director John Kmiec said the department “will continue to support customers through flexible payment plans, bill assistance programs, and water conservation tools.”
