The Newton Star Market location that hangs over the Massachusetts Turnpike was given the go-ahead to reopen Friday morning, days after asbestos was found in the store .

The Newton Health and Human Services Department cleared the grocery store to reopen as of 10 a.m. Friday, following an inspection from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, or DEP.

The health department first closed the store on Tuesday after the DEP notification. The agency reported that demolition work in a stockroom, which is not accessible to the public, may have caused the release of asbestos, according to Newton Health and Human Services Commissioner Shin-Yi Lao.
