NEW ORLEANS —

The Louisiana Department of Health has furloughed hundreds of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program employees amid the ongoing government shutdown.

According to the LDH, 786 SNAP employees were furloughed effective Monday. Advertisement

A total of 298 LDH employees are considered essential and will not be furloughed.

The furlough will continue until the federal government shutdown in Washington, D.C., ends.

The Louisiana Department of Health said in a statement that it is closely monitoring the federal government shutdown and will provide updates to retailers and beneficiaries directly as they become available.
