CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Jury selection is moving forward in the Brooks Sandwich House homicide trial with seven jurors; three men and four women officially seated Friday. The court still needs five more jurors and four alternates before testimony can begin.

Steven Staples and Terry Connor are charged with killing restaurant co-owner Scott Brooks in 2019 during an early-morning robbery attempt outside his family’s NoDa sandwich shop. Both face life in prison if convicted.

Finding jurors who can be fair and impartial has been a challenge in this high-profile case. Many potential jurors were dismissed after saying they were familiar with the Brooks family, had eaten at the restaurant, or had already formed opinions about the case.
