Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Travis Hunter exits the tunnel before an NFL game at EverBank Stadium.

The Jacksonville Jaguars entrusted in Travis Hunter to be one of the faces of their new era when they drafted him earlier this year by moving up and trading the Cleveland Browns their first rounder in 2026.

While the two-way youngster has come into his own as the season has progressed for the surprising 4-3 Jaguars, his season might be in peril following the announcement of a non-contact injury to his knee during Thursday’s practice.

Hunter is officially out on Sunday for Jacksonville’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders and will be out for at least four games on injured reserve due to his injury. When asked whether he could potentially learn later in the season whether the Jaguars remain in playoff contention and advance into the new year, head coach Liam Coen remained cautious.

"We're currently assessing the injury just to determine the best course of action moving forward for Travis and the team," he said.

During his rookie campaign, Hunter accrued 298 receiving yards and a single touchdown, which came in his most recent game abroad in London versus the Los Angeles Rams. Hunter had his breakout performance on the offensive side of the ball, going for 101 yards on eight catches. In the secondary, he was also improving, finding ways to influence the game with a deflection or using his transcendent athleticism to force the opposing quarterback to throw elsewhere.

This is a heavy blow to an up-and-coming Jaguars team thick in the hunt for the playoffs. Without Hunter, 2024’s star rookie for Jacksonville, Brian Thomas Jr., will be asked to turn around what has so far been an underwhelming season for last season’s best rookie receiver.
