NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) -- North Charleston community leaders are advocating for stronger civilian oversight of local law enforcement, after a town hall Tuesday night.
At Ralph M. Hendricks Park, advocates called for "community control" of policing. They want a board of democratically elected citizens to have a say in who polices their neighborhoods and how.
Denise Scott, whose brother-in law Walter Scott was shot and killed by a North Charleston police officer in 2015, said the latest incident reminded her change still needs to come.
"When the community called and said it's going to be another Walter Scott, my heart started just jumping," said Scott, "I don't want it to be that. But we've got to do a lot more."
