HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The winner of this year’s Hastings Parks and Recreation Department’s Halloween Light Fight received some inspiration from a heavy metal icon.

Grant and Tammi Jacobsen received the most votes among 13 competitors in this year’s competition with an ancient Egyptian-themed display at their house at 721 N. Briggs Ave.

Grant said that he got the idea from thinking about his brother’s favorite band, Iron Maiden. Ancient Egyptian imagery is among the various themes that the band’s mascot, Eddie, has appeared with on Iron Maiden album covers.

Voting took place from Oct. 17-26 on the Hastings Parks and Recreation Department’s Facebook page. One like equaled one point, a comment was worth two points and a share was worth three points.
