KALAMAZOO, MI – Police arrested a man with a stolen pistol after he fled on foot during a targeted patrol focused on illegal weapons offenses.

The Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team and Crime Reduction Team were conducting patrols on Wednesday, Oct. 29, on Alamo Avenue near Douglas Avenue when they saw two males wearing masks.

One of them was “showing clear indicators of being armed with a firearm,” Kalamazoo police said in a statement.

Police made contact with the two near Cobb Avenue and Nola Street. One of them, a 23-year-old Kalamazoo man, ran but was soon caught. He possessed a gun that had been stolen in Portage in early 2023.

He was arrested for weapons violations, resisting and obstructing police and outstanding warrants, police said.
