Former Akron deputy mayor for public safety and former assistant police chief Charles Brown is being remembered by the Akron mayor for his dedicated service to the city.
Akron Mayor Shammas Malik released a statement about Brown, 64, who died Oct. 24.
"I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Charles Brown," Malik wrote in a Facebook post Oct. 31. "Charlie dedicated 36 years of service to the City of Akron, first as an Akron Police Officer working in all three sub-divisions before rising in the ranks to Assistant Chief of Police.
"He then joined the Horrigan administration as Deputy Mayor for Public Safety, a position he held for 6 years until his retirement in 2022. He was a staunch advocate for public safety and made a considerable impact on Akron."
