WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — Hundreds of families in Houston County are going without pay this month due to the continuing federal government shutdown and the fate of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits is still uncertain.
One local business is stepping up to tackle hunger during these challenging times.
Maximum One Realtors launched its "Boo Away Hunger" initiative this week, a food drive focused on helping families stay fed during the Halloween season. The effort began as a Halloween-themed project but quickly grew as community support poured in.
"They'll get a whole meal ready to prepare," Tracy Foster, the drive’s organizer, said.
She explained that bags are being filled with non-perishable food items, not candy.
