Azruddin Mohamed, the leader of Guyana's leading opposition party, has been arrested alongside his father, Nazar Mohamed, by U.S. authorities on charges of fraud and corruption. Both were released on bail shortly after their arrest.

Azruddin, who asserts his innocence, claims his political ambitions have led to persecution by the ruling People's Progressive Party. The pair was granted bail under the condition they surrender their passports, fueling tensions among their supporters.

The extradition request by the United States has set off a political firestorm, as the Mohameds and their legal team prepare to face charges of conspiracy to commit fraud and money laundering. The case remains adjourned until November 10.
