DES MOINES, Iowa (Gray Media Iowa Capitol Bureau) - Two federal judges have ordered the Trump administration to fund the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP until the federal government shutdown is over.
Without that funding, millions of Americans will not receive their November benefits that were previously scheduled to be released on the 1st.
Some states are now stepping in to provide help, including in Iowa.
Governor Kim Reynolds announced that starting Saturday, if Iowans donate a million dollars in monetary donations to any of Iowa’s 6 food banks, she will match it with a million state tax dollars.
The money will come from leftover funds from the Department of Health and Human Services.
