ST. PAUL — The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says it has “mathematically verified” that the alcohol breath test results that were in question involving the DataMaster machine are “reliable and accurate.”

“We stand behind the instruments and the validity of the testing and the reliability of the instruments across Minnesota,” BCA Superintendent Drew Evans said during a press conference Friday afternoon. He added that BCA laboratory scientists are prepared to testify in court about the results and that this means there should likely not be any impact on court cases.

In September, user and procedural errors involving the DMT machine may have impacted an estimated 275 breath tests of suspected impaired drivers, including more than 100 cases combined in Olmsted and Winona count
