In the direct aftermath of Scream 6 , no one could have predicted the way Scream 7 's new trailer was just received. The former film, which starred Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega as the franchise's new heroes, committed to an exciting new direction, leaning away from the meta elements and aiming to scare on its own terms. The results fired up the fanbase and resulted in the highest-grossing Scream film ever domestically.
But that new direction came to a sudden end when the production company fired Barrera from the sequel for comments made about the war in Gaza.
